Theraposture and Shaun Masters OT introduce the ‘game changing’ Orbit rotating bed at the 2023 OT Show.

CPD presentations

The Theraposture stand proved to be once again a popular destination for healthcare professionals attending the OT Show. Throughout the two days, Shaun Masters, OT, delivered a series of CPD presentations entitled ‘Getting legs into bed – redefined.’ These educational talks aimed to help OTs solve a huge issue in the community so that clients can live independently and without the need for expensive care packages. Pivotal to Shaun’s ‘express’ CPD sessions was the new rotating bed from Theraposture – the Orbit 235.

The Orbit 235 Rotating Bed

The Orbit 235 (Occupational Rotational Bed for Independent Transfers) is a revolution and huge step forward in rotating beds. The Orbit 235 is a rotating bed that can be prescribed and configured accordingly to a wide range of users, making it exceptional value because it is easy to reissue and easy to accommodate all shapes and sizes of user.

Theraposture has added the Orbit 235 to its current market-leading and proven range of rotating beds which includes the OT Show award-winning Rotoflex. Each electrically operated bed offers powered profiling, rotation into a chair position and variable height so users with restricted mobility can get in and out of bed safely, and on their own terms. Designed to assist bed transfers for many conditions including Parkinson’s, MS and Stroke, these beds offer an alternative to expensive carer assistance, hoisting, or the need for relocation into residential care.

In many scenarios these beds ‘pay for themselves’ in a short period of time as typical care costs can range from £27,000 to £50,000+ per annum. After that short time there is no cost, yet the cost of care would otherwise be ongoing. The Orbit 235 now extends this offering with a solution that is totally prescriptive for everyone. This is achieved by assessing each user, using the Orbit 235, and configuring the settings which are then recorded as a prescription.

The scope of adjustment through the modular design and electronic programming, includes:

  • Length between 200cm and 220cm
  • Seat height between 40cm to 48cm
  • Seat depth between 46cm and 51cm
  • Back angle during rotation 0 degrees to 90 degrees
  • Speed of rotation 50%, 75% and 100%
  • Finished seating position at 60 degree or 90 degrees.

No other rotating bed in the world can offer this scope of prescriptive settings, thus making the Orbit 235 a ‘game changing’ next level development in rotating beds.

Liam Braddell, Managing Director of Theraposture said:

“Everything that we have learnt and everything that we have been asked for has resulted in the Orbit 235. The manufacturing process includes robotic welding and laser cutting technology, creating a level of quality that is unrivalled.”

Shaun Masters demonstrated to large numbers of delegates how the Orbit 235 is the most advanced solution for independent bed transfers available. He said:

“In my experience as an OT, the Orbit 235 is the most accomplished, capable, and well-designed rotating bed available. It is suitable for a wide range of users, making it versatile and recyclable, and great value for equipment services.”

The Orbit 235 is now available for client suitability assessments in their homes supported by Theraposture Trusted Assessors. The bed will feature in Shaun’s new CPD webinars for 2024 which all Occupational Therapists are encouraged to sign up for when they become available.

Theraposture’s revolutionary Orbit 235 rotating bed to launch at OT Show

Theraposture, the Occupational Therapist’s considered choice for Adjustable Beds, Chairs, and Care Cots, will be unveiling its pioneering NEW Orbit 235 rotating bed at the OT Show (stand H52, NEC, 22 and 23 Nov).

Orbit 235 rotating bed

The ‘game changing’ new Orbit rotating bed from Theraposture.

The Orbit 235 (Occupational Rotational Bed for Independent Transfers) is a revolution and a huge step forward in rotating beds. There is no other rotating bed like it. The Orbit 235 has been developed in collaboration with Occupational Therapists and end users, building on Theraposture’s understanding and experience gained as the true market-leading supplier of rotating beds for over 20 years. Everything that has been learnt and everything that has been asked for has resulted in the Orbit 235.

Theraposture provides a range of rotating beds including the OT Show award-winning Rotoflex. The Orbit 235 now extends this offering with a solution that be configured through personalised programming, and the modular adjustments from its clever and flexible design.

The Orbit 235 can be adapted to suit users from 4’10” to 6’6” with adjustable platform lengths of 200, 210 and 220cm and programmable seating dimensions to suit all shapes and sizes. This adaptability is truly unique and game-changing. There are three mattress lengths of 200, 210 and 220cm and the seat settings allow seat heights from 40cm to 48cm and depths from 46cm to 51cm. This scope of personalisation ensures full support and comfort can be achieved.

Another innovation is the option to program a finished chair position of either 60 or 90 degrees in relation to the bed, to aid side access to a wheelchair or if space is limited in a room. The speed of rotation, angle of recline, vertical lift (or tilt if preferred) can all be pre-programmed to user preferences.

The Orbit 235 has a fully integrated powered rising heel section that ensures fully supported leg elevation to assist with oedema. The Orbit 235 has a maximum patient weight of 31 stones (200kg) Theraposture’s Rotating Bed Range provides a safe, proven and lasting solution to independent bed transfers, allowing the users to get in and out of bed on their own terms, and when carer assistance isn’t available. It can also reduce the need for caregivers. With two carers visiting twice daily, to assist with bed transfers, costing around £27,000 per annum, this independence represents a significant saving and means Theraposture rotating beds pay for themselves in a short space of time. Equally, relocation to residential care can be avoided – typically costing around £50,000+ per year.

Shaun Masters, Occupational Therapist will be using the new Orbit 235 within his on-stand CPD presentations at the OT Show. Shaun said:

“In my experience as an OT, the Orbit 235 is the most accomplished, capable, and well-designed rotating bed available. The Orbit 235 is suitable for a wide range of users, making it versatile and recyclable, and great value for equipment services.”

As with all rotating bed from Theraposture, the Orbit 235 can provide improved occupation for clients with the following conditions:

  • Parkinson’s
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Motor Neurone Disease
  • Progressive neurological and muscle wasting conditions
  • Stroke
  • General loss of mobility
  • Lymphedema
  • Plus size users
  • Balance and transfer issues
  • Amputees

Theraposture provides free home assessments with a rotating bed, to ensure that suitability can be established in the user’s home environment, with the appropriate bed. For the Orbit 235, a personal configuration is saved and later used when the bed is delivered.

The Orbit 235 is built using cutting-edge production techniques. It brings together precision laser cutting, robot welding and powder coating for ultimate reliability. This new level of durability is matched by its pioneering adaptability. The Orbit truly raises the bar in rotating bed design – delivering levels of tailored independence never experienced before.

Theraposture to offer bed transfer solutions for client cases at OT Show

Occupational Therapist, Shaun Masters, and Theraposture Trusted Assessors are inviting all Healthcare Professionals attending the OT Show to visit stand G51 to discuss specific client case challenges regarding bed transfers, and to see possible solutions firsthand.

The Occupational Therapy Show, Stand G51, NEC, Birmingham, 23 and 24 November 2022.
Open from 9:00am.

Finding solutions to bed transfer problems that are safe, provide independence for the client, and reduce the need for carer assistance is a priority for many Occupational Therapists. The cost of care is high and is ongoing. Care packages are difficult to put in place and clients can be stuck in hospitals or nursing homes because resources are not always available to support them in the community.

Upholstered adjustable rotating bed

The Theraposture team at the OT Show will be inviting all healthcare professionals to come along and discuss their
individual client cases that involve difficulties with bed transfers.

At the OT Show this year, Theraposture is focusing on solutions to getting in and out of bed when living in the community. Alongside its ‘Getting legs into bed’ on stand CPD seminars, this specialist team is encouraging all Occupational Therapists to come along and discuss individual cases and to see and to try the possible solutions available. Assessments can be booked and cost comparisons with the cost of care can be given, to help with justification and reasoning.

Demonstrations of the patented Rotoflex rotating bed range and Theracare Leg Lifter will be available through the two days of the OT Show 2022. The Rotoflex 235 Mk2 will be on stand G51 – the latest iteration of the OT Show ‘Excellence in Caring’ Award-winning bed. Theraposture provides the largest range of rotating beds in the UK which deliver powered profiling, rotation and variable height to move a user from a recumbent to fully upright seated position. Once in the chair position, vertical lift ensures sit-to-stand transfers are controlled and safe, without any tipping action which is common with beds that attempt to copy the patented Rotoflex.

Healthcare professionals will also be able to discuss options regarding bed sizes, pressure management mattresses, accessories, and finishes – either for beds for one person or couples to share. Over and above day-to-day practical benefits, the wider implications of using a Rotoflex will also be highlighted in terms of improved occupation, mental health, and well-being.

On stand J40 at the OT Show, Theraposture supported by Shaun Masters, Occupational Therapist, will be presenting the new Rotoflex 235 Plus Mk2 turning bed alongside the popular Theracare Leg Lifter and a bespoke double combination adjustable bed.

The OT Show, J40, NEC, Birmingham, 27 and 28 November 2019

Theraposture has been a respected supplier of quality adjustable beds, chairs and care cots since 1981. Its  Rotoflex 235 Plus turning bed won the respected OT Show ‘Excellence in Caring’ Award last year.

Supported by OT Shaun Masters, the Theraposture stand at the OT Show will display a series of proven solutions for safe bed transfers that focus on community enablement.

Theraposture Trusted Assessors work closely with OTs during their clinically led assessments so that individual client needs are always met in terms of appropriate sleeping solutions. At the OT Show, Theraposture will be demonstrating a series of products that are suitable for varying client abilities with a focus on enablement within the community. These power-assisted solutions are proven to reduce care costs and relieve strain on NHS and social care budgets. Through ownership of either a Theraposture Rotoflex bed, leg lifter or adjustable bed, individuals with restricted mobility are able to improve their own occupational performance and sleep hygiene.

Shaun Masters, OT and Theraposture Trusted Assessor comments:

“We welcome all healthcare professionals to visit stand J40 to discuss individual client needs on a one-to-one basis and to discover why Theraposture products are the considered choice. We will demonstrate power-assisted solutions that offer a range of support for adults – from assistance with getting legs into bed through to complete rotational support from a sitting to a supine position. This product series delivers multiple clinical and well-being benefits and with the appropriate prescription, aims to encourage active mobility while maintaining safety and control. The 14-day Suitability Guarantee on all Theraposture products ensures a positive outcome every time, along with client peace of mind.”

Shaun adds:

“Maintaining client mobilisation is the priority here, however by choosing Theraposture products, pressure on NHS and social care budgets can also be reduced. The Rotoflex rotational bed range for example, is proven to reduce carer intervention from two-to-none – in these scenarios up to £27,000 per annum can be saved in care costs. By visiting us at the OT Show my fellow peers will be able to, not only understand these advantages, but gain CPD hours by attending my on stand ‘Getting legs into bed‘ seminars.”

On stand J40 the following solutions will be displayed:

Award-winning Theraposture Rotoflex 235 Plus Mk2 – part of the largest range of rotational beds available, the latest Rotoflex 235 Plus builds on the success of its predecessor. This bed for one person provides a feature-rich, standard solution that is suitable for the majority of individuals who need powered, rotational assistance to move from a supine to fully upright seated position with their feet on the floor.

This Rotoflex is totally unique – it is the only rotational bed in the world with a Powered Rising Foot Support for supported leg elevation. Traditionally all rotating beds have had to encompass a static foot section of mattress so that the rotating platform would not clash with the footboard, not anymore. With the use of one controller, the Rotoflex 235 Plus Mk2 provides powered elevation of a separate foot section with complete profiling, rotational and variable height. Being able to raise feet and legs in bed in a supportive and controlled manner can provide a wider range of health and well-being benefits.

The Rotoflex is the original turning bed refined over 20 years which is patented and cannot be directly copied. The bespoke Theraposture range includes low access, bariatric and double combination versions available with a variety of specialist mattresses. The Rotoflex is regularly prescribed by therapists as it includes a vertical lift in the seated position ie. it does not tip users forward like other beds or riser chairs.

This is critical for safe sit-to-stand transfer especially for those with strength and balance inconsistencies resulting from neurological conditions.

Theraposture Double Combination Bed – handcrafted, bespoke and durable adjustable beds for couples to share. Theraposture is a specialist in custom made beds with an infinite choice of size, style, functions and finish that allow people to continue sleeping together despite varying abilities. Consisting of two separate mattresses and adjustable sleeping platforms in one surround, each side can be fitted with electrically powered profiling and variable height. A Rotoflex turning system can also be integrated within the design so individuals requiring greater assistance can access the bed and adjust positioning without disturbing their partner.

Combined with a specialist range of mattresses for varying degrees of pressure management through to numerous safety devices, Theraposture beds offer hospital-grade strength and support within an attractive domestic look. Steel frames and mechanisms deliver better performance when combined to cheaper wooden alternatives, so longer term value and reliability is assured.

Theracare Leg Lifter – compatible with most types of bed, this reliable solution lifts legs up, over and onto a sleeping surface. Unlike other similar devices, the Theracare Leg Lifter positions a user’s legs nearer the centre of the bed, so minimal repositioning is required. The motor is quiet and strong enough to lift severely oedemic (swollen) legs. A simple yet highly effective solution for individuals with postural control.

Rotoflex 235 rotating low access bed

Theraposture Rotoflex 235 Plus – Rotating bed

Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director explains:

liam-braddell“Our new Rotoflex 235 Plus rotating bed system has been developed to accommodate those who only need a 90cm wide bed for one person, in a standard wood veneer finish.

It is referred to as a “Plus” because it comes with a patented Powered Rising Foot Support and has a safe working load of up 235kg. Through highly considered design and ergonomics, this streamlined bed provides an appropriate solution for more users without complex adjustment and bespoke features.

It is the culmination of two decades of expertise and understanding that is focused on delivering user independence and significant care cost savings. As with all Rotoflex beds, the new Rotoflex 235 Plus can pay for itself in months when compared to the high cost of carer assistance – reducing budget pressures on statutory services and private purchasers.”

The Rotoflex Range

Often copied but never equaled, the patented Rotoflex from Theraposture is the market leading and trusted powered turning bed.

It moves a user from a recumbent to fully upright seated position. It is the only rotational bed range that is available with a Powered Rising Foot Support and includes a multitude of unique patented features through a detailed design refined over 20 years.

Save up to £27,500 on care costs

  • Proven to typically save up to £27,500 in annual care costs when two carers are reduced to none.
  • Will pay for itself after 4 months and then saves money thereafter.

The Rotoflex can reduce assistance from others thus allowing users to get into and out of bed on their own terms. The independence enabling Rotoflex is often used by those with progressive neurological conditions such as MS and Parkinson’s and can be an alternative option to hoisting.

Liam continues:

“With the introduction of this new bed it is important to once again highlight the key differences our Rotoflex range provides compared to the many copies.

Manufactured with high grade materials, electronics and mechanisms, the lifting frame is extremely stable and will not tip over.

It includes vertical lift in the seated position which is critical for safe sit-to-stand transfers, especially for users with neurological conditions and resultant unpredictable leg strength / balance issues. It will not tip you forward like other products which can cause the potential for a fall.

The Powered Rising Foot Support means that the entire length of the leg can be fully supported when elevated in bed which offers many health benefits – this is only available with the Theraposture Rotoflex. The new unique mattress retainer system ensures consistent and anti-sheer movement and the modular seat depth provides optimum postural support. No other rotating bed range delivers the care excellence our Rotoflex is proven to provide – Theraposture and the Rotoflex are the only considered choice.”

Theraposture successfully launches revolutionary Rotoflex 200 Mark 2 rotational bed at OT Show

Theraposture has strengthened its position as the market leader in rotational assistive beds by unveiling its new Rotoflex 200 Mark 2 at The OT Show

The OT Show Stand D32, NEC, 22-23 November

Theraposture provides the largest available range in tailor-made rotational beds – this choice has just been extended further with the new Rotoflex 200 Mark 2.

The Theraposture stand at the 2017 OT Show was busy with professionals keen to see the new Rotoflex 200 Mark 2 rotational bed. Pictured from left to right: Hans-Joachim Kleeberg, Rotoflex Inventor; Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director; Richard McCracken and Steve Keetley, Theraposture Trusted Assessors.

A patented break-through in assistive technology

demonstrating the adjustable bedRepresenting a break-through in assistive technology, the enhanced Rotoflex 200 Mark 2 incorporates modular seat depth allowing four different choices plus the new option of an electrically height adjustable foot section – both a world’s first in turning bed systems. These advantages are only available on Theraposture’s Rotoflex which continues to be the most advanced and established solution on the market.

The new patented, optional height adjustable foot section on the Rotoflex 200 Mark 2 allows users to elevate their legs with full support resulting in many health-related benefits.

Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director explains:

“Frankly our new Rotoflex 200 Mark 2 bed is in a class of its own. The support and functionality it provides far exceeds anything that copies try to achieve. Previously all rotating beds have had to include a static mattress section between the rotational sleeping surface and the footboard. This ensured the arc of the turning mattress and legs did not clash with the footboard, however, the separate mattress section at the foot end of the bed could not be raised to match the height of a user’s feet when profiled whilst in bed. Not anymore! Through our latest German engineering, the foot section can be independently electrically raised so users can elevate their feet like a standard adjustable bed with the full support of the entire mattress surface. We have solved a common problem for people with odemea, pressure care and circulation issues in their legs who need to elevate their feet in bed. This exciting new feature can be retro-fitted to all existing Rotoflex beds so that every owner can now access life-changing comfort.”

25 years of patented development

feet on adjustable bedThrough 25 years of patented development, the electrically operated Rotoflex has been refined so that it provides the safest and most ergonomic method to get in and out of bed. It will power-assist a user from a recumbent to a fully upright seated position at the side of the bed.

With vertical lift in this seated position users can achieve more controlled sit-to-stand transfers – it intentionally will not tip users forward unlike some copies.

By reducing the need for carers from two-to-none in many situations, the Rotoflex is proven to save over £27,000 in annual care costs.

Liam continues:

“The introduction of our latest Rotoflex at the OT Show generated significant interest from healthcare professionals, especially as they could meet the original inventor from Germany on our stand – Hans was happy to explain why the Rotoflex cannot be copied. The Theraposture Rotoflex is the original rotating bed that has patents that relate to its lifting mechanism, the mattress retention and its stability. As a company, we are highly respected within the sector and our products are synonymous with long term value and positive outcomes.

The new Rotoflex Mark 200 reiterates this commitment – to ensure end users benefit from the greatest levels of support, comfort and independence. Owners no longer need to add aids or pillows to raise their legs when sleeping in either a profiled or recumbent position – Theraposture offers the solution on new and existing Rotoflex beds. We believe the Rotoflex 200 Mark 2 is a game-changer within the assistive bed market – it is the only considered choice. Combined with more bed size options through our latest adaptable base frame, all Rotoflex beds will offer unsurpassed suitability, backed up by impeccable and ethical service.”
