Theraposture successfully launches new paediatric Safe-T Bed at Kidz-in-the-Middle

Theraposture Limited, the highly respected specialist in assistive furniture and supporter of the Newlife Foundation, has received high levels of interest in its new, Safe-T care bed for children which was launched recently at the Kidz-in-the-Middle event.

Theraposture is a privately owned, family run business based in Wiltshire that has been the leading supplier of bespoke, hand-built adjustable beds, chairs and cots since 1981. It is a long standing supplier for the Newlife Foundation which is a charity dedicated to providing essential, supportive equipment to children with disabilities and life-limiting conditions. Theraposture works closely with the charity, providing a wide range of specialist beds and cots for the children and their families who urgently need help.

Theraposture’s new electrically powered Safe-T Bed made its UK debut at the Kidz exhibition held at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena. With integrated, solid sides that fold down when required, this bed now provides a new alternative to either traditional care cots/beds, with traditional drop down side rails or cot sides. The Safe-T Bed is ideal for children who require higher lateral protection than provided by traditional style beds with drop down side rails, but do not require a higher-sided care cot solution with doors.

Raised sides deliver safety for young users who move significantly when in bed so that falls are avoided whilst providing peace of mind for parents. The raised sides of the Theraposture Safe-T Bed provide greater stability, stronger locking mechanisms and vastly increased safety when compared to traditional integrated or add-on metal side rails. These new bed sides also do not require such high levels modification to mask potential entrapment points on what would otherwise be beds designed for adults. The solid sides of the Safe-T Bed have no gaps at all.

Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director commented:

“We have once again experienced a very busy Kidz-in-the-Middle and our new Safe-T Bed generated remarkable levels of interest from Healthcare Professionals and parents as it represents the perfect niche solution between a specialist bed with traditional drop down rails and a care cot. We discussed in great detail the many benefits our latest product provides along with Theraposture’s renowned suitability guarantee.”

Liam continues:

“As the Safe-T Bed sides are handcrafted from solid Beech wood and shatterproof Perspex, it is possible to fit substantial padding in the same way that you would with a cot bed. This padding can have clear soft windows therefore making two-way visual access, both possible and safe – essential for a child not to feel enclosed and for parental monitoring. The sides are 55cm high making them taller than adjustable side rails. When they are folded down, the mattress is flush with the side of the bed which can be knelt on safely by a carer, unlike a bed with drop down sides. This significantly improves moving and handling practices and ultimately increases dignity and care for the user. We believe that this bed’s fold-down sides are stronger than current drop-down rails and because there are no gaps at all, we also feel this bed has now taken safety standards even further. The Safe-T bed, with its solid gap free sides, is specifically designed for children which is not the case with adapted, adult community type beds.”

The new Safe-T Bed from Theraposture is available in two sizes each with two, fold-down 55cm sides. Electric operation can either include variable height and mattress profiling or solely variable height. Its height adjustment allows the mattress surface to be positioned between 30 to 80cm above floor level, hence conforming to BSEN 60601-2-52. This means a safe working height is provided for carers and parents so that potential back injury and muscle strain is minimised when attending to a child’s needs.

The new Theraposture Mascot Mark II is the world’s first, fully modular care cot that provides a flexible solution to meet the changing needs of a disabled child.

The new Mascot is the first fully modular design available in the UK.  Building on the proven heritage of the original Mascot, it is a hand built, individually specified sleeping solution that now encompasses fully inter-changeable door heights. Ranging from 60–98cm in height, these doors also incorporate a new innovation securing mechanism for enhanced safety. Delivering safety, great looks, affordability without compromising quality and full modular adaptability – the new Mark II Mascot is the flexible solution for changing user needs.

Rotoflex® powered rotational bed

The Theraposture Rotoflex truly delivers independence, as it is a real alternative to hoisting and carer assistance.  In this situation the bed can pay for itself many times over as the cost of care at home or in a residential setting is so high.

The Rotoflex can be electrically operated to rotate to either side of the bed to ensure that it is compatible with a variety of room situations.  In addition to the unique rotation, the Rotoflex also has powered profiling and variable height function with the latter helping to achieve a standing transfer if needed. This unique adjustable and full rotating bed can be installed as a single, or within a double combination bed so partners with varying mobility needs can still sleep together.

Theraposture achieves ISO recognition for outstanding business practices

Theraposture Limited, the nationally renowned assistive furniture specialist in Westbury, Wiltshire, is delighted to announce it has successfully achieved ISO9001 accreditation which formally recognises its 30-year heritage for market-leading procedures and quality products.

ISO9001 is only awarded to businesses that comprehensively demonstrate an effective quality manufacturing and management system. This is a measure of the organisation in terms of how it achieves consistency, meets the needs of customers and maintains good practice at all times. David Holtum, Theraposture’s Managing Director explains:

“This achievement for Theraposture is very important. It clearly demonstrates to both private and public sector healthcare markets, that we consistently implement accurate and efficient systems to ensure every single customer has the best possible experience with us time and again. As we handcraft high quality, bespoke adjustable beds, chairs and paediatric cots it is absolutely imperative that our less able end-users have total confidence in us. From initial contact, assessment and specialist advice right through to recommendations, installation and after-sales care, this organisation adheres to strict guidelines and set procedures so that specific needs are met and expectations exceeded. Potential new customers, who may also fully depend on our solutions to remain mobile at home without expensive care costs, will now be further assured of our outstanding reputation with this ISO9001 standard in place. I would like to thank all the team here at Theraposture for their hard work as without this dedication and commitment, ISO9001 would not have been achieved.”

Following the request of the Managing Director, Theraposture’s Engineering Consultant, David Arthur, instigated and drove the ISO9001 programme. David has over 40 years of experience in engineering across the globe and is nicknamed ‘Mr Detail’ at Theraposture. His role since 2005 with Theraposture has concentrated on all aspects of the manufacturing process to ensure constituent parts, safety testing and finished product quality is of the utmost standard.

David Arthur concludes:

“Even though we have operated with robust, systematic procedures for several years, it was important for us to formally announce our quality management systems to the market place. As many public sector contracts can only be awarded to businesses that display ISO9001 competencies, this has given Theraposture further market penetration capabilities along with additional interest from domestic customers. This latest recognition of commercial excellence adds to our impressive roll call of existing accreditations and it has been an absolute privilege for me to help achieve this for Theraposture.”
