Theraposture showcases innovative ‘Home and Away’ travel care cot at Kidz North

Theraposture, a leading specialist in adjustable beds and cots for disabled children and young adults, will be demonstrating its new travel care cot, latest Theracare Flex bed and fully future-proofed Mascot cot at Kidz to Adultz North.

Thursday 14th November 2019. 9.30am – 4.30pm, EventCity, Barton Dock Road, Manchester.
M17 8AS. Stand B10. Free entry and parking.

Theraposture is one of the most established supporters of the regional Kidz exhibitions and will be once again providing the opportunity to offer appropriate sleeping solutions to end users, families and healthcare professionals. Its team of Trusted Assessors will be on hand to discuss individual needs on a one-to-one basis whilst explaining their trusted assessment-led services and commitment to ethical provision. In addition to practical product demonstrations, an array of useful information will be available including details regarding Theraposture’s free CPD workshops for professionals.

Theraposture’s relationship with Newlife, the charity for disabled children, will also be highlighted as this respected business is the chosen supplier of cots for the unique Emergency Equipment Loan Service.

Theraposture Exhibition stand at KidzNorth

The Theraposture stand at Kidz to Adultz North will provide an unmissable range of trusted sleeping solutions for disabled children and young adults.

New for this year’s event

Theraposture will be displaying its Home and Away travel care cot. This cot has been developed for children who need safe surroundings at home or whilst travelling, such as those with severe Autism or challenging behaviour. This portable safe environment includes extensive padding with large windows for generous visibility and easy access for uncompromised care. The clever Home and Away design allows fast assembly and dis-assembly using strong zip and Velcro fastenings – hence repositioning is hassle-free. Each constituent section is lightweight so single-handed lifting and carrying is strain free and will fit in most standard cars.

If young users required more postural variety then powered functionality can be added to the sleeping surface such as height adjustment and/or profiling. Variable height provides extra safety for carers as the risk of back injury can be eliminated as the need to bend when providing support is greatly reduced. As with all Theraposture products, the new Home and Away cot is a tailor-made, hand crafted solution. Each cot is specifically designed to meet individual needs with a range of footprint, door and side sizes. Window configurations are flexible along with an impressive range of specialist mattresses for maximum user comfort and family peace of mind.

Alongside the Home and Away cot Theraposture will be displaying the latest version of its power-assisted Theracare Flex bed with 2-bar high sided rails and the ever-popular cost-effective Mascot Mk2 cot. The modular Mascot is the only truly future-proofed care cot that can be adapted to meet changing needs. This negates the need to purchase a new cot in the future so personal and public expenditure can be reduced. The Mascot, like the entire cot range from Theraposture, fully meets all relevant safety standards and come with a fully inclusive 3-year warranty. It is held in stock at Theraposture’s Wiltshire factory for fast delivery.

Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director concludes:

liam-braddell“Kidz North is always a busy show for us as many healthcare professionals and families regard Theraposture as the considered choice. Our products are proven and trusted to deliver safety, comfort and durability that not only helps young disabled users, but benefits whole families and their carers. We look forward to showcasing our new Home and Away bed at EventCity for the first time and encourage all visitors to come and enjoy our free chocolates!”

Assessors sat on turning bed

Theraposture Trusted Assessors will be explaining the unique benefits of the Rotoflex bed at Rise4Disability Kent.

The Rotoflex is regularly prescribed by therapists as it includes vertical lift in the seated position ie. it does not tip users forward like other beds or riser chairs. This is critical for safe sit-to-stand transfers especially for those with strength and balance inconsistencies resulting from neurological conditions. The Rotoflex is proven to save care costs up to £27,000 per annum as independent living can be facilitated with carers reduced from two-to-none.

Shaun Masters, Occupational Therapist and Trusted Assessor comments:

“I have worked with a significant number of clients who experience difficulties with bed transfers. I am confident that the Rotoflex is the most appropriate intervention available in meeting their needs and allowing participation in activities of daily living.”

NEW: Optional powered rising foot support

The original and trusted Rotoflex is the ONLY rotating bed that can be supplied with the patented Powered Rising Foot Support to provide fully supported leg elevation. This pioneering technology from Theraposture provides invaluable relief from circulation, pressure and fluid retention issues. This new feature can only be specified on Rotoflex beds from Theraposture – either within new products or retrofitted to existing models.

The bespoke Theraposture range is the widest available and includes:

Shaun Masters with Mascot Cot

Shaun Masters, Occupational Therapist and Trusted Assessor, will be available on stand A3 at Kidz to Adultz Wales and West.

Organised by the charity Disabled Living, regional Kidz exhibitions provide a rewarding opportunity to see the latest assistive products, services and associated charities. Theraposture is a long-standing supporter of these events and will once again be showcasing its popular and trusted range of adjustable cots and beds.

This ethical specialist believes appropriate product provision is only possible through assessment-led services hence works closely with Occupational Therapists to ensure positive outcomes for all. This approach is strengthened by Theraposture’s in-house OT, Shaun Masters, who will be available at Kidz to Adultz Wales & West on stand A3 to discuss individual client cases on a one-to-one basis.

All healthcare professionals, carers and families are invited to meet Shaun so a better understanding of care cots can be achieved. Shaun will highlight the key product features and benefits to consider in relation to various common conditions and challenging behaviour, with particular emphasis on compliance regarding risk of entrapment and safe working heights.

Discussions will be informal and allow visitors to seek solutions to current situations and access topical case studies that illustrate why Theraposture cots are the considered choice. Through his extensive frontline experience, Shaun will offer advice regarding a multitude of care scenarios and how best to maximise safety and comfort for young users. Equally, solving the needs of carers can also be discussed in terms of safe working heights and moving and handling best practice.

Shaun Masters, OT, comments:

“I would encourage all OTs and parents looking for safe adjustable sleeping solutions to meet me at Kidz West. With the support of quality Theraposture cots, such as the popular Mascot Mk2, I will be practically demonstrating the many product features to assess when prescribing a suitable bed.

Design will be explored in relation to specific paediatric conditions so occupational performance and sleep hygiene can be optimised. Topics such as functionality, padding and safety legislative will all be discussed along with the major consideration – future proofing. By specifying truly modular designs, the changing needs of a user can be continually met without the need to purchase new cots in the future. This cost effective approach is of significant importance both for public sector and personal budgets.”

Alongside Mascot cots and a Theracare adjustable bed, there will be free educational information available on the Theraposture stand. This will include informative case studies, funding and ownership guidance and details regarding Theraposture’s provision of cots through Newlife’s Emergency Equipment Loan Services.

Becoming confident in prescribing cot beds for better sleep hygiene, client care and moving and handling

Shaun Masters, Occupational Therapist, BSc Hons
16th May, 10:30am, Seminar Room 2

Synopsis

The seminar will explore the difficulties faced with prescribing paediatric sleeping solutions. It will explore the wider implications on health and day-to-day function whilst examining our nature to care for others. Topics will also highlight future proofing for a child’s needs as they progress, become older, heavier and stronger and how this has an impact on the parents/carers abilities. Parents still want to hold, lift and nurture their child, but is this sustainable when looking at safe moving and handling?

Learning outcomes

  • Have a greater understanding of the wider implication on achieving good sleep hygiene
  • Prescribe the most appropriate cot bed for your client

About the speaker

Shaun Masters is a registered OT with over 15 years of public sector experience. He specialises in community-based re-enablement and has particular expertise in moving and handling – both in

Through an assessment led approach and the in-house expertise of an OT, Theraposture delivers positive outcomes for families, therapists and carers. What’s on display at Kidz to Adultz Middle?

Mascot Mk2 cot

Theraposture Trusted Assessors with the Mascot Care Cot

The Mascot is the only, fully modular cot that can be adapted as a child’s needs change – hence negating the need to purchase a new product in the future.

This represents significant cost savings and ensures a space-appropriate design is provided throughout the lifetime of the child. The Mascot incorporates multiple future-proofed features in particular, it is the only fully modular care bed that will allow conversion from 4-door (1 side) opening to 8-door (opening both sides). This is essential if care needs progress and access is required to both sides of the cot.

The Mascot is available with variable height, mattress profiling and anti-/Trendelenburg functionality. If safety padding is required, Theraposture is renowned for handcrafting precision solutions so entrapment risks are eliminated – enhanced by the recent introduction of larger soft windows for greater visibility inside and out.

Shaun Masters, OT, will be on hand throughout Kidz Middle to discuss how therapists and families can make the considered choice of care cot. He will explain, from his experience, how the correct, future-proofed cot provides multiple benefits for the whole family. Shaun will be joined by fellow Theraposture Trusted Assessors and a representative from Newlife, the charity for disabled children – all ready to discuss individual requirements on a one-to-one basis.

Theraposture Rotoflex 235 Plus – Rotating bed

Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director explains:

liam-braddell“Our new Rotoflex 235 Plus rotating bed system has been developed to accommodate those who only need a 90cm wide bed for one person, in a standard wood veneer finish.

It is referred to as a “Plus” because it comes with a patented Powered Rising Foot Support and has a safe working load of up 235kg. Through highly considered design and ergonomics, this streamlined bed provides an appropriate solution for more users without complex adjustment and bespoke features.

It is the culmination of two decades of expertise and understanding that is focused on delivering user independence and significant care cost savings. As with all Rotoflex beds, the new Rotoflex 235 Plus can pay for itself in months when compared to the high cost of carer assistance – reducing budget pressures on statutory services and private purchasers.”

The Rotoflex Range

Often copied but never equaled, the patented Rotoflex from Theraposture is the market leading and trusted powered turning bed.

It moves a user from a recumbent to fully upright seated position. It is the only rotational bed range that is available with a Powered Rising Foot Support and includes a multitude of unique patented features through a detailed design refined over 20 years.

Save up to £27,500 on care costs

  • Proven to typically save up to £27,500 in annual care costs when two carers are reduced to none.
  • Will pay for itself after 4 months and then saves money thereafter.

The Rotoflex can reduce assistance from others thus allowing users to get into and out of bed on their own terms. The independence enabling Rotoflex is often used by those with progressive neurological conditions such as MS and Parkinson’s and can be an alternative option to hoisting.

Liam continues:

“With the introduction of this new bed it is important to once again highlight the key differences our Rotoflex range provides compared to the many copies.

Manufactured with high grade materials, electronics and mechanisms, the lifting frame is extremely stable and will not tip over.

It includes vertical lift in the seated position which is critical for safe sit-to-stand transfers, especially for users with neurological conditions and resultant unpredictable leg strength / balance issues. It will not tip you forward like other products which can cause the potential for a fall.

The Powered Rising Foot Support means that the entire length of the leg can be fully supported when elevated in bed which offers many health benefits – this is only available with the Theraposture Rotoflex. The new unique mattress retainer system ensures consistent and anti-sheer movement and the modular seat depth provides optimum postural support. No other rotating bed range delivers the care excellence our Rotoflex is proven to provide – Theraposture and the Rotoflex are the only considered choice.”
